The Video Camera that can do it all.
For me the GoPro Hero 7 Black checks all the boxes I need for it to be a great video camera. The 2 most important features I need are good image quality, and reliability. My last GoPro was the Hero 5, so there were noticeable differences with this upgrade.
HyperSmooth stabilization as GoPro calls it is their new form of built in stabilization and its nothing to scoff at (even if its electronic image stabilization rather than optical). Now the Hero 5 had an electronic image stabilization (EIS) that the Hero 7 greatly improves upon. The camera predicts your movement and keeps the video free from jitters and jerks, this makes the GoPro a much more functional camera. Where prior versions of the GoPro I would have second thoughts on bring it on my adventures due to the significantly shaky footage I would end up capturing without any form of stabilization. Now the GoPro Hero 7 Black will only leave my camera bag when I have to unload footage, otherwise the camera lives in my camera bag. In the video below you can see quick 10 second clips comparing footage from the Hero 7 Black, Hero 5 Black, and Hero 4 Silver.
The best part for me as a big fan of GoPro is the reliability. A GoPro is a camera that you know is going to work regardless of the conditions your try to film in, and will survive any (within reason) durability test you may think of. I hate to admit it, but I’ve dropped my Hero 7 Black more times than I can count and its still working like the day I took it out of the box.
If you’re like me, you can appreciate good value for money. It really doesn’t get much better with the Hero 7 Black especially if you are looking to better your video capabilities without investing tons of money into a mirrorless or DLSR. The best part of a GoPro is that you know its going to work, and its going to take a beating. I hate to admit it, but I’ve dropped my Hero 7 Black more times than I can count and its still working like the day I took it out of the box.
